What do you think makes a film, a classic? Why are certain films, classics? Discuss what makes a film popular here.

I think a classic movie is critiqued by its memorability, its humor(in my opinion) and the all-around feel of the movie.

Yes. I agree. I think it is interesting that lines from movies can also make a movie a classic. Sometimes movies are long forgotten, but are spoofed all the time for their lines.

Yes. And there are some classic movies that some people have never seen, but know quotes from. "We're not in Kansas anymore." "Luke, I am your father." Great movie, by the way. "Use the force!"

Yeah, that is what I mean. I can name them both. Do you know where, "I think this the beginning of a beautiful friendship" comes from?

No, I havent. And I can barely read your post! Where does it come from?
How about, "It's Fronkensteen!" Easy one, I know.

Young Frankenstein, right? The first one came from Casablanca. There are so many famous lines from that movie (saw it fairly recently).

Yeah. I've never seen that movie.
"It's party time! P-A-R-T. Why? Because I gotta!"

Yep. That is the Mask. Hey, I'll make another post for random lines from movies. It'll go in the "games" section.

"Use the force!" did you know that "Luke I am your father" wasn't on AFI's list for the 100 greatest quotes, isn't that crazy? "Frankly my dear I don't give a darn" was number 1

I would expect that would be number one. I heard that a lot of lines from Casablanca made AFI's list for 100 greatest quotes.

I think it's the ability of people to remember it.
People will be remembering "Brokeback Mountain" for a while after it's out on DVD (Unless it already is.....)

Because it is controversial.
Classics are often spoofed, but sometimes never seen. For example, I can think of several old movies I have never watched, but know the ending to.
